Top 10 Epilators

Epilator

Epilator is a hand held electrical device which offers one of the most practical ways to remove body hair. Unlike basic shaving, it takes the hair out by the root much like waxing – that means longer periods between treatments and more time to spend doing other things. There are many different ways to tackle hair removal. Using this tool is less expensive than laser treatments or salon waxing and is not as messy as shaving.

Ultimately, it boils down to convenience. Shaving simply chops off the top of the hair but leaves the root intact. With a viable root, the hair will just grow back like a weed. The epilator pulls the hair out instead of cutting it in half. With the root gone, the process of growing new hair takes longer. Using one is similar to tweezing, except you conquer many hairs at once, and thus makes the process faster and much less painful.

How it works

An epilator contains a number of tweezers, all of which work together to remove hair. Any good one at a high speed is capable of doing a few thousand tweezes per minute. This means, you can get perfectly smooth and beautiful arms and legs, in a matter of minutes. It looks like the ordinary trimmers or shavers that we see in the market. There are some models which are cordless, and are battery operated while others, which come with a cord that you have to connect to a power source.

How it Differs from Waxing

The mechanics are the same between waxing and using an epilator. Both rip the hair out from the root, but that is where the similarity ends. Waxing is more of a process. Heating the wax, brushing it on and then applying strips all takes time. Using wax may damage the skin, as well. When the strips come off, they pull up more than just hair. This is a faster and cleaner approach to get the same result.

Waxing is costly, especially if you go to a salon. Epilatory treatments require just the purchase of the machine – no tipping or paying for expensive materials.

Benefits of Epilating

Many people avoid using an epilator because they find it painful, but the benefits of using it far outweigh the little discomfort it causes. Some benefits that it has over other methods of hair removal are as follows:

Easy to Use on Entire Body: It requires no technical training to use, and it is quite easy to operate, and anyone can use it conveniently. Moreover, they can be used on legs, arms, face, and the bikini area.

Less Messy: Waxing and sugaring make the process a lot messy. It leaves the skin sticky. The epilator, on the other hand, leaves the skin smooth without creating any mess.

One Time Investment: Once you buy an epilator you can use it innumerable times. For waxing you have to visit the salon every time, and pay for the services.

Lasts Long Skin Smooth: Unlike shaving, epilating removes hair from the root, and leaves the skin silky smooth for long a time. The affect lasts for up to 3 weeks. The new hair growth that occurs after epilating is sparse.

Done at Home: An epilator saves you the repeated visits to the salon. You can remove unwanted hair at home, whenever you require.

How to Choose

Different brands offer different features. Shop around until you find the device that suits your needs. Things to consider include:

Wet or dry application – you might want to use it in the shower.
Precision – refers to the number of tweezers on the head – more means better grabbing power.
Head design – different heads work best on specific areas of the body – one for the legs, another for under the arms. Pivoting heads make the device more flexible.

Tips for Use

Just like anything, it takes practice to master using an epilator. Little things make the process easier like taking a shower before the treatment to help soften hairs. Move the device up against the hair growth too. Apply body lotion to the skin after use and don’t be alarmed if there is some redness – that is normal. Once you get the hang of it, using an epilator will be as simple as shaving your legs and more practical than waxing.
