Unless your knives are coated you will discover that the Zwilling J.A. Henckels suits your knife sharpening needs. There are two modules that insure you are happy with your sharpened knife because the first module does coarse sharpening and presharpening and the second one is for smoothing and fine sharpening. This unit is the perfect size as it fits nicely in small spaces or even inside a drawer. It is designed not to skid on the countertop for added safety and comfortable use.
What we like:
This knife sharpener allows users to create a “like new razor sharp performance” for even the dullest of knives in just minutes. This is not saying that your knives will perform like they did the day they arrived from the factory but they will be capable of doing the day-to-day cutting chores that you need them to do instead of sitting useless in your drawers. Knives take a lot of abuse from over-use to being washed in the dishwasher but after being sharpened with the Henckels they can last for a few months without the need to re-sharpen them.
What we don’t like:
Hardened knives need more than 5 swipes in order to bring them to sharpness. If you use the product on a knife that has chips it will make the chips worse. Knives with chips need to be grinded down with a whetstone and the blade needs to be re-honed before a sharpener can be used.
The bottom line:
The Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Sharp Duo is the perfect unit for handling the job of bringing dull knives back to the desired sharpness so that you can use it for cutting jobs in the home. It is not recommended for knives that are chipped and it is also not to be used with coated knives. It is recommended fore knives that have a fine edge and the two modules work well together to bring dull knives back to life and full usage.
